Description
Level shifting chips let you connect 3V and 5V devices together safely. The 74AHCT125 is particularly good at converting 3V logic up to 5V, making it ideal for devices such as the Teensy 3 when connected to NeoPixels. Powered at 5V, it reliably detects 3V logic levels. It can also be powered at 3V to read 5V logic inputs safely.
To use the chip, apply ~5V power to the VCC pin, connect common ground, and tie the /OE (output enable) pins to ground. Data inputs go on the A pins and output on the matching Y pins. Detailed wiring examples for Raspberry Pi are available in the Adafruit learning guides, along with the datasheet for pinout reference.
