Description

The Adafruit AMG8833 IR Thermal Camera FeatherWing adds heat-vision capability to any Feather main board using the Panasonic AMG8833 8x8 GridEYE sensor. This sensor returns an 8x8 array of infrared temperature readings over I2C, allowing the creation of your own mini thermal camera or human detector.

This part can measure temperatures ranging from 0°C to 80°C (32°F to 176°F) with an accuracy of ±2.5°C (4.5°F), and it can detect a human from up to 7 meters away. With a maximum frame rate of 10Hz, combined with a fast Feather board such as ESP8266, ESP32, or Teensy, you can interpolate the 8x8 grid for enhanced results.

The AMG8833 sensor supports I2C communication and has a configurable interrupt pin that triggers when individual pixels exceed a threshold. Pair this FeatherWing with a TFT FeatherWing and stackin' headers (not included) for a full thermal camera demo.
