Description
The Adafruit INA238 is a high-precision power monitoring chip with support for up to 85V DC common-mode voltage, high or low side measurements, and a 16-bit ADC for accurate readings from milliamps to amps. It communicates via an I2C interface and is designed for easy integration with various microcontrollers and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi.
Key features include:
- 16-bit resolution ADC providing precision current, voltage, and power measurements.
- Operates up to 85V common-mode voltage on high or low side.
- Measures currents up to 10A (high current mode) or 2.75A (low current mode).
- I2C interface compatible with 3V and 5V logic levels.
- Includes a precision 15 milliohm 0.1% shunt resistor onboard.
- Simplifies wiring with STEMMA QT connectors for plug-and-play compatibility.
- Fast alert response time of 75 μs for quick notifications.
- Can connect up to 4 sensors on one I2C bus by address jumpers.
This board is the ideal solution for precise DC current, voltage, and power monitoring, featuring improved gain error and offset voltage compared to previous models. It comes fully assembled with a 3.5mm terminal block and header; light soldering is needed to attach the header for breadboard use.
Note that the INA238 cannot measure energy/charge unlike the INA228. Suitable for DC measurements only and not for AC voltages.
