Description

The Adafruit LPS28 (LPS28DFW) Pressure Sensor is designed for applications requiring measurement of a wide range of pressures, including deep-water and high altitude. Unlike many pressure sensors that max out at about 1260 hPa, the LPS28DFW can measure pressures up to 4060 hPa, equivalent to depths of 40 meters underwater or altitudes down to -43,000 feet below sea level in air.

This sensor provides high precision with absolute pressure accuracy of ±0.5 hPa and a 24-bit data output, capable of up to 200 samples per second. It includes embedded temperature compensation and an easily sealed water-resistant package with an O-ring for protection in harsh environments.

The breakout board supports both 3.3V and 5V logic levels, and communicates via an I2C interface, featuring STEMMA QT and SparkFun Qwiic compatible connectors for easy plug-and-play integration without soldering. The sensor's small form factor (25.4mm x 17.8mm x 4.8mm) and low weight (1.8g) make it suitable for compact applications.

Key Features:

  • Measures absolute pressure from 260 to 4060 hPa (two full-scale modes)
  • ±0.5 hPa absolute pressure accuracy for precise altitude or depth measurements
  • 24-bit pressure data output with an output data rate from 1Hz to 200Hz
  • Water-resistant, sealed package with O-ring
  • I2C interface with STEMMA QT / Qwiic compatible connectors
  • Supports embedded FIFO and interrupt functions (data-ready, FIFO flags, pressure thresholds)
  • Power supply: 3.3V or 5V compatible
  • Compact dimensions and lightweight build

The LPS28 is ideal for underwater robotics, scientific instrumentation, and applications requiring sensing of absolute pressure beyond typical atmospheric ranges. Note that the breakout does not include STEMMA QT cables, which are sold separately.
