Description

Thermocouples require sensitive amplification with cold-compensation. The Adafruit MCP9601 I2C Thermocouple Breakout (MCP96L01) simplifies this process by handling all analog functions internally and supporting a wide range of thermocouple types: K, J, T, N, S, E, B, and R.

This breakout board integrates the MCP96L01 chip, a 3.3V regulator, and level shifting circuitry, allowing operation with 3.3V or 5V logic. It features a 2-pin terminal block for easy thermocouple connection and a pin header for breadboard compatibility.

  • Compatible with K, J, T, N, S, E, B, and R thermocouple types
  • Temperature ranges per datasheet:
    • K: -200°C to +1372°C
    • J: -150°C to +1200°C
    • T: -200°C to +400°C
    • N: -150°C to +1300°C
    • E: -200°C to +1000°C
    • S: +250°C to +1664°C
    • B: +1000°C to +1800°C
    • R: +250°C to +1664°C
  • High resolution of ±0.0625°C (ADC resolution)
  • Thermocouple accuracy ±2.0°C typical / ±4.0°C max (excluding thermocouple inherent accuracy)
  • Internal cold junction temperature reading
  • 3.3V to 5V power supply and logic level compliant
  • I2C interface with STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors for easy connection without soldering

Includes software libraries, schematics, and example code for quick integration. Terminal block comes pre-soldered in the latest revision as of November 10, 2023.
