Description
The Adafruit MiniBoost 5V @ 1A is a compact and efficient boost converter board based on the TPS61023 chip from Texas Instruments. This mini-booster accepts an input voltage from 2V to 5V DC and outputs a stable 5.2V at up to 1A of current, making it ideal for battery-powered projects using 2 or 3 alkaline cells or a single lithium battery.
This board includes a highly integrated chip featuring dual 3A MOSFET switches, thermal efficiency, and various protections including overvoltage, thermal shutdown, and short-circuit protection.
Key features include:
- Input voltage range: 0.5V to 5.5V (start-up at 1.8V)
- Output voltage: 5.2V (slightly above 5V to compensate for cable losses)
- Output current up to 1A
- High efficiency (~88% at lower currents)
- True disconnect enable pin to completely disable output
- Compact PCB size: 17.8mm x 11.3mm x 5.6mm
- Updated PCB with 2 oz copper for improved thermal and current handling
Electrical performance at various input voltages:
- 2V in: max 300mA out at 5V
- 2.5V in: max 500mA out at 5V
- 3V in: max 800mA out at 5V
- 3.5V in: max 1100mA out at 5V
- 4V in: max 1400mA out at 5V
Includes one fully assembled breakout board with header pins. Connect 3-5V to IN and ground, and 5V is available on the OUT pin. The enable pin allows output to be disabled.
