Description
The Adafruit PiUART is a convenient USB Type-C to serial connection add-on designed for Raspberry Pi computers, especially useful for 'head-less' setups. It allows connection to the Pi's console using any serial port software, making debugging and interfacing straightforward and efficient.
This small, fully assembled board features LEDs for RX and TX activity, providing visual feedback of data transmission. The PiUART also includes an on-off switch with a 4 Amp transistor, enabling power control to the Pi via the USB-C connection without unplugging the cable. This is particularly handy for low-power Pi models such as the Pi Zero and A+, providing both power and data through a single USB connection.
Key features include:
- USB Type-C to serial console interface for Raspberry Pi
- On-off power switch with 4 Amp transistor for controlling power without unplugging
- RX and TX LEDs for data transmission indicators
- Works with any Raspberry Pi model (1, 2, 3, 4, Zero, etc.)
- Fully assembled and ready to use
- Compact dimensions: 21.0mm x 20.0mm x 8.0mm
- Lightweight at 2.2g
The PiUART requires a driver installation on Mac OS X for quick setup. Note that higher power Pi models like Pi 3 and Pi 4 may require USB ports capable of higher current.
Recent updates include a modern USB-C connector replacing micro USB and an updated USB-Serial chip (CP2102N), maintaining functionality and compatibility.
