The Adafruit BNO085 is the motion sensor you've been waiting for, offering direct, usable data without the need for complex sensor fusion knowledge. This small, 5.2x3.8mm sensor integrates multiple advanced motion sensors, including an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer, and delivers precise sensor fusion data right out of the box.

Key Features:

  • Sensor Fusion: The BNO085 integrates 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyroscope, and 3-axis magnetometer, and processes the data into usable outputs like acceleration, angular velocity, magnetic field strength, and gravity vectors.
  • Sensor Data: Provides acceleration in m/s², angular velocity in rad/s, magnetic field strength in micro Tesla, linear acceleration, gravity, and absolute orientation with quaternion outputs.
  • Advanced Detection & Classification: Includes stability detection, significant motion detector, tap detector, step detector, shake detector, and activity classification.
  • Sensor Fusion Firmware: Powered by CEVA Hillcrest Labs firmware, delivering accurate motion tracking for applications like AR/VR, robotics, and wearable tech.

BNO085 vs. BNO080:

  • The BNO085 is an improved version of the BNO080, fixing previous SPI timeout issues and offering enhanced functionality while maintaining full compatibility with the original BNO080 code.

Practical Applications:

  • Ideal for motion detection, robotics, wearable devices, AR/VR, and activity classification.
  • It’s suitable for projects requiring low-latency, low-power, and precise motion sensing.

Compact & Versatile:

  • Despite its small size, it provides a wealth of information in real-time. The BNO085 is incredibly small but packs a punch with an impressive array of data outputs.

Easy Integration:

  • The sensor is mounted on a breakout board with voltage regulation and level-shifting circuitry, allowing compatibility with both 3.3V (e.g., Raspberry Pi/Feather) and 5V (e.g., Arduino) logic.
  • Features Stemma QT connectors for solderless connections.
  • Includes a 32.768 kHz crystal for a stable reference oscillation.

Ready to Use:

  • The BNO085 is easy to use with Arduino and CircuitPython. We’ve provided full libraries, wiring examples, and tutorials to get you started right away.
  • The sensor can also be used in UART-RVC mode, providing calibrated heading and acceleration measurements for simpler applications, like robot vacuum cleaners.

Small but Powerful:

  • The Adafruit BNO085 IMU breakout is compact, reliable, and versatile, making it perfect for a range of motion-sensing projects. Whether you're building robots or wearable devices, the BNO085 offers an impressive set of features that deliver high-performance results without the complexity.

(Note: QT Cable is not included, but available for purchase in the shop.)
