5V 1.5A Linear Voltage Regulator - 7805 TO-220

The venerable 7805 linear regulator is a popular, reliable component perfect for powering your electronics projects. This TO-220 package regulator converts 7-35V input voltage down to a stable 5.0V output with 2% regulation, providing up to 1.5A current capability.

Key features include internal current limiting and thermal shutdown protection, making it durable and virtually indestructible electronically. It has an approximate 2V linear drop-out voltage, requiring a minimum of 7V input for a clean 5V output.

Note that this regulator draws a constant quiescent current of 6mA. To achieve the full 1.5A output, proper heat sinking is required as the device can dissipate substantial heat depending on voltage and current levels. Without heat sinking, it can safely dissipate around 2W.

While capacitors are not strictly required for stability, it is recommended to use at least 10uF electrolytic capacitors on both input and output for best performance.
