Description

If you've ever worked with 9-DOF sensors, you know the challenge of converting raw accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer data into meaningful 3D space orientation. The Adafruit 9-DOF Absolute Orientation IMU Fusion Breakout featuring the BNO055 handles this complexity for you with on-chip sensor fusion, providing stable, accurate orientation data in various formats.

This breakout integrates a Bosch BNO055 sensor, combining a MEMS accelerometer, magnetometer, and gyroscope with a high-speed ARM Cortex-M0 processor that performs sensor fusion internally. The module outputs data as quaternions, Euler angles, or vectors, offering comprehensive 9-axis orientation data.

The STEMMA QT / Qwiic version features plug-and-play I2C connectors on both sides for easy, solderless connection, compatible with 3 or 5 Volt logic levels. It supports multiple data outputs including absolute orientation, angular velocity, acceleration, magnetic field strength, linear acceleration, gravity vectors, and temperature.

Use is straightforward with available Arduino (C/C++) and CircuitPython libraries, enabling data acquisition in minutes. The breakout has two selectable I2C addresses to support multiple sensors on the same bus, with extra pins for interrupts and address selection. The small PCB also includes four mounting holes for secure installation.

  • Easy-to-use 9-DOF absolute orientation sensor with on-board sensor fusion
  • Outputs orientation in Euler vectors, quaternions, and raw sensor vectors
  • STEMMA QT connectors for no-solder I2C bus connections
  • Supports 3V and 5V logic with selectable I2C address (0x28 or 0x29)
  • Includes interrupt pins and address jumpers
  • Compatible with Arduino and CircuitPython libraries for quick setup
  • Four mounting holes for stable mounting

This breakout comes assembled and tested with a small piece of header; soldering is needed to attach the header for breadboard use. It does not include STEMMA QT cables, which are available separately.
