Description

Give your microcontroller project a lift with the Adafruit AirLift, a breakout board that uses the powerful ESP32 as a WiFi co-processor.

This board enables your favorite microcontroller (like the ATmega328 or ATSAMD51) to gain WiFi capability by offloading the WiFi connection and data transfer tasks to the ESP32 chip. The ESP32 can handle the latest TLS/SSL encryption with root certificates pre-burned in.

Key advantages include simpler code, no need to handle socket data buffering or SSL library debugging. It communicates over an 8MHz SPI bus with 2 control pins, supporting both 3V and 5V logic, though more complex tasks require higher RAM microcontrollers like SAMD51 or Cortex M4.

The breakout includes a PCB with level shifting circuitry, a 3.3V regulator, and a tri-state chip for MOSI to share the SPI bus with other devices. It comes fully assembled, tested, and pre-programmed with ESP32 SPI WiFi co-processor firmware compatible with CircuitPython.

Features:

  • ESP32 WiFi co-processor for offloading WiFi tasks
  • Pre-loaded with ESP32 SPI WiFi co-processor firmware
  • SPI communication at 8MHz maximizing data transfer speed
  • Supports 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers
  • Level shifting circuitry and tri-state MOSI for SPI bus sharing
  • Ready to use with CircuitPython via library support
  • Applicable for ATmega328 and up microcontrollers
  • Compact size with dimensions 33.0mm x 31.8mm x 4.8mm

Technical Specifications:

  • Product Dimensions: 33.0mm x 31.8mm x 4.8mm (1.3" x 1.3" x 0.2")
  • Product Weight: 5.7g (0.2oz)
  • Maximum power supply current: up to 250mA during WiFi usage
