Description

Wouldn't it be cool to display images and graphics directly from your Pico or Pico W to an HDMI monitor or television? The Adafruit DVI Sock provides a simple, effective digital video output (DVI) breakout board compatible with any HDMI monitor or display. Please note, this product outputs video only, with no audio support.

This breakout board uses the Raspberry Pi Pico's pinout to provide DVI output by employing the RP2040's PIO system and overclocking techniques. It features 220 ohm series resistors and is designed to be plugged into the side pins of your Pico board or soldered directly for a compact form factor. Pin connections include:

  • GP12 to D0+
  • GP13 to D0-
  • GP14 to CK+
  • GP15 to CK-
  • GP16 to D2+
  • GP17 to D2-
  • GP18 to D1+
  • GP19 to D1-
  • Pico GND to GND

The DVI Sock also breaks out 5V, GND, Hot-Plug Detect, CEC, and Utility pins for advanced use. Although 5V is technically required for the DVI port, it is left disconnected on the Sock since it is typically used for the I2C EDID EEPROM, which can be omitted.

This is a low-cost, passive breakout board suitable for digital video generation and demonstrations with the Raspberry Pi Pico.

For more advanced DVI interfacing on Pico, also consider the DVI PiCowbell or the all-in-one Adafruit RP2040 DVI Feather.
