Description
Introducing the Adafruit PiCowbell OV5640 Camera Breakout with a 120-degree low-distortion lens, featuring a 5 Megapixel sensor for high-quality imaging with your Raspberry Pi Pico or Pico W. This camera module enables you to capture raw RGB images suitable for image analysis or take advantage of built-in JPEG encoding to save images to an SD card or upload them to adafruit.io.
The module includes the necessary support circuitry and uses the RP2040 chip's fast PIO interface and sufficient memory to interface with DVP (8-bit parallel digital) cameras. The camera sensor communicates over 8 image data pins plus synchronization signals and I2C configuration interface.
Features:
- 5 Megapixel OV5640 camera with 120-degree low-distortion wide angle lens.
- GPIO pin assignments: VSync (GPIO 0), Power Down (GPIO 1), HSync (GPIO 2), Pixel Clock (GPIO 3), SDA/SCL (GPIO 4 & 5), 8-bit Digital (GPIO 6–13), Reset (GPIO 14).
- Micro SD card support via SPI on GPIO 16, 18, 19 with Chip Select on GPIO 17 and optional SD Detect on GPIO 15.
- Shutter button on GPIO 22 and Reset button onboard.
- 16 MHz onboard oscillator for XClock.
- Stemma QT port for I2C on GPIO 4 and 5.
- No autofocus; fixed infinite focus lens.
Each purchase includes the assembled PCB, camera sensor, and two 20-pin header pieces for soldering. Recommended accessories include PiCowbell doubler board or Pico socket headers for stacking or solid connection.
