Description

Breathe easy with the SGP30 Multi-Pixel Gas Sensor, a fully integrated MOX gas sensor from the sensor experts at Sensirion. It features I2C interfacing and fully calibrated output signals with a typical accuracy of 15% within measured values, combining multiple metal-oxide sensing elements on a single chip to provide detailed air quality signals.

This gas sensor detects a wide range of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and hydrogen (H2), intended for indoor air quality monitoring. Connected to a microcontroller running the Adafruit library code, it returns Total Volatile Organic Compound (TVOC) and equivalent carbon dioxide (eCO2) readings over I2C.

The SGP30 includes a standard hot-plate MOX sensor and a microcontroller for power control, analog voltage measurement, baseline calibration tracking, TVOC and eCO2 calculation, and I2C communication. It measures eCO2 concentrations from 400 to 60,000 ppm and TVOC concentrations from 0 to 60,000 ppb.

Note: VOC/gas sensors have variability; calibration against known sources is recommended for precise measurements. The sensor supports humidity compensation via an external humidity sensor for improved accuracy.

Designed with the STEMMA QT form factor, the sensor is easy to interface using solderless plug-and-play with STEMMA QT connectors compatible with SparkFun Qwiic connectors. All pins are broken out to standard headers with a 1.8V voltage regulator and level shifting for compatibility with 3.3V or 5V systems such as Raspberry Pi, Metro M4, or Arduino Uno.
