Description
Stepper motors are widely used in CNC machines, 3D printers, and other applications requiring precise and powerful motion control. The Adafruit TMC2209 Stepper Motor Driver Breakout Board simplifies controlling stepper motors, offering superb quiet operation and advanced features.
This breakout board uses the Trinamic TMC2209 silent "Stealth Chopper" DMOS microstepping driver with translator and overcurrent protection. Controlling steppers requires only two pins: DIRection and STEP, allowing easy interfacing with microcontrollers.
- Motor voltage support: 5V to 29V DC
- Logic voltage: 3V to 5V compatible with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and other SBCs
- Terminal screw block connections for motor power and 4-wire bipolar stepper motors (26-20AWG, 2.54mm pitch)
- Default to 1/8 microstep mode; configurable to 1/16, 1/32, 1/64, and up to 1/256 via UART interface
- Visual feedback LEDs for direction (red/green) and step signal (yellow)
- Enable control line for low power mode/deactivation
- Index output pulses at microstep zero point
- Diagnostic output for error detection (short circuits, stall detection with UART)
- Current limiting potentiometer up to 2A max
- 22uF 35V electrolytic capacitor on motor power line
- 2 oz copper PCB for enhanced current handling and heat dissipation
- Four mounting holes for secure installation
The board is fully assembled and tested, including a small strip of header that requires light soldering. Motor, power supply, and microcontroller not included. Advanced features like UART provide in-depth control and diagnostics with appropriate libraries.
