Description
The Adafruit VCNL4020 is a versatile two-in-one sensor that combines a proximity sensor capable of measuring distances from 0 to 200mm (approximately 7.5 inches) and a light sensor with a broad range from 0.26 to 16,000 lux.
This sensor is ideal for applications requiring accurate close-range distance measurement and concurrent ambient light sensing, such as robotics, environmental monitoring, and interactive projects.
Features include:
- Proximity sensing from 0 to 200mm
- Light sensing with a range of 0.26 to 16,000 lux
- I2C communication with STEMMA QT / Qwiic compatible connectors for easy integration
- Operates with 3.3V or 5V logic levels
- Multiple sampling and averaging options for optimized sensing performance
- Compact breakout board featuring JST SH connectors and mounting holes
The VCNL4020 breakout board offers support circuitry for compatibility with various microcontrollers, including Feather, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and Metro328. It uses I2C protocol, requiring only two wires for data, along with power and ground connections. The sensor also includes STEMMA QT connectors, allowing solderless connections with compatible cables.
Note: STEMMA QT cables are not included but are sold separately in various lengths.
