Description
The Adafruit VL53L1X Time of Flight Distance Sensor is a high-precision distance sensor featuring a narrow invisible laser source and a matching sensor that measures distance by calculating the time it takes for the light to bounce back. This allows for LIDAR-like precision across a range of approximately 30mm to 4000mm (4 meters).
Unlike traditional sonar or IR distance sensors, the VL53L1X uses a narrow light beam reducing measurement errors caused by multiple surfaces. It has an update rate of up to 50Hz.
This sensor breakout board is designed for ease of use, featuring a built-in regulator and level shifting to support 3-5V power and logic. It communicates over I2C with SparkFun Qwiic/Adafruit STEMMA QT connectors, making it easy to integrate without soldering using compatible cables.
Its compact size makes it ideal for robotics, IoT, and interactive projects requiring accurate long-distance sensing.
