Description

The Kitronik Prong Soil Moisture Sensor is designed for use with the BBC micro:bit to measure moisture levels present in the soil. The sensor features two conductive tines that are placed directly into the soil, allowing any moisture to conduct an analog voltage that the micro:bit can read.

This sensor is powered by the 3V supply from the BBC micro:bit, which can be powered via USB or JST connector. It can be securely mounted to the micro:bit with M3 nuts and screws or connected using croc-clips. When used with the Kitronik Mi:Power board, the sensor setup can become a compact standalone unit with power and audible alarm capabilities.

The sensor is ideal for environmental monitoring projects and can be programmed using any micro:bit compatible editor, including Microsoft MakeCode. Users should ensure moisture readings are taken intermittently to prolong the sensor's life and avoid rapid electrode erosion.

Features:

  • Measures soil moisture levels effectively.
  • Direct attachment to BBC micro:bit for compact setup.
  • Can be powered and alarmed with the Mi:Power board.
  • Compatible with various micro:bit coding editors.
