Description
Before SSDs, USB keys, email attachments, SD cards, or CD-ROMs, floppy disks were the main storage medium, capable of storing about a megabyte of data using a magnetic disk. This upcycled 3.5" Floppy Drive, typically a Sony MPF-920 model or compatible, allows access to floppy disks that you may still have.
Important Note: Floppy drives are no longer manufactured, so these are leftover units from the 80's and 90's. They may show signs of wear such as scratches, stickers, dents, and chips. All drives are tested to read FAT12 formatted diskettes.
This drive connects to a 34-pin IDC data cable and a 4-pin "Berg" power cable. It requires 5V at approximately 2 Amps despite power cables having 12V. A controller like a PC motherboard or an Adafruit Floppy FeatherWing is necessary to use this drive. No USB connectivity is available.
