Description
The USB to TTL Serial Cable is the easiest way to connect to your microcontroller, Raspberry Pi, or WiFi router serial console port. It features a USB-to-Serial conversion chip inside the large USB plug. The cable is 36 inches long and splits into four wires: red for power, black for ground, white for RX into the USB port, and green for TX out of the USB port.
The power pin supplies 5V at 500mA directly from the USB port, while the RX/TX pins are 3.3V level for interfacing with common 3.3V logic level chipsets.
Perfect for powering and connecting to the debug/login console on Raspberry Pi or BeagleBone Black. The cable's separated pin plugs make it ideal for powering and establishing an RX/TX link.
- Compatible with Windows 7/8/10 (driver installation needed)
- Mac OS X compatible (driver installation needed)
- Linux compatible (drivers included in the kernel)
- Useful for hacking WiFi routers and other 3.3V logic serial ports
- Note: Not suitable for Arduino reprogramming due to lack of DTR/RTS wire
This cable has evolved over time, initially using the PL2303HX chipset with a black USB body, then PL2303TA chipset with a violet body from July 2014, and currently uses the SiLabs CP2102 chipset for improved driver stability and speed.
